Although our weather will be coolish through the weekend, we must remember that Memorial Day weekend is still springtime in the Northern Plains. In fact, our weather in June often has spring characteristics such as frequent cool spells and rain on average once every three days or so.
The reader will add to this perspective the fact that our weather has been cooler and wetter than average recently, and temper expectations for the holiday weekend. That being accomplished, we can expect a not-half-bad holiday weekend.
Meanwhile, the Deep South is having a summer heat wave with temperatures in the 90s and 100s across the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama through the weekend. This is unusually hot for May even in the South where average high temperatures for late May are in the lower 80s.
