HILLSBORO, N.D. — The city of Hillsboro is asking residents to discharge their sump pumps directly into the street instead of the sewer system after heavy rains across eastern North Dakota this week.

The Hillsboro Public Works Department says it's having a hard time keeping water levels down in the city's sewer system.

Hillsboro, which is about 35 miles north of Fargo, received 2.52 inches of rain in Monday's storm.
