Not surprisingly, the month of August in our region was cooler and rainier than the current complete three-decade average. The average high temperature in Fargo Moorhead during August was 76.6 degrees, which is 4.6 degrees cooler than average. The average low for the month was 56.5 degrees, which is 0.8 degrees cooler than average. The average daily mean temperature of 66.5 degrees is 2.8 degrees cooler than average. So the days were cooler than the nights, relative to average. This was the 16th coolest August month on record dating back to 1881.

There were nine days with highs in the 80s, 18 in the 70s, and four days with highs in the 60s. The warmest temperature recorded in August was 87 degrees on Aug. 6. There was 4.02 inches of rain measured at Hector International Airport during August, which is 1.46 inches more than average. The heaviest rains were 1.17 inches on the 11-12th and 1.73 inches on the 25-27th. The cool and wet weather pattern has continued into early September and shows no sign of significant change for the next few weeks.
