EAST GRAND FORKS — The Grand Cities could soon be covered in snow.
"You just know it's coming. It's not a secret," said Brett Hanson, operations manager for Greg's Lawn Care.
Snow removal companies say now is the time to prepare.
"Make sure your snowblower is running, make sure you've got gas in the garage for it, and stay home if you can," Hanson said.
They've got their equipment ready to go, but it may be tough to get companies to take on any new clients.
"Just about everybody in Grand Forks is 100%to 120%," Hanson said.
Snow removal companies often book their winter clients in July and August. Anyone who tries to hire a snow removal service this late in the season may be left out in the cold.
"They can only take on so much to keep everybody efficiently cleaned out," he said.
If you're forced to dig your way out of the snow, they say it's best to take off a couple inches at a time.
"That'll be hard on backs, heart conditions, stuff like that. Be safe," Hanson said.
Greg's Lawn Care could be clearing snow around the clock until Monday.
"It's going to be a long three days," he said.
Depending on the contract, snow removal companies may not clear a client's driveway until after the snow stops falling. That means they won't get to some homes until Sunday at the earliest.
