Seattle, Tacoma, and the Puget Sound area was hit by snow several times this past week, with heavy snow at times.
When most people think about Seattle weather, it is rain and not snow that comes to mind. The winter climate of Seattle is rather chilly due to the cold ocean temperatures in that area. Winter temperatures are often in the 40s and 50s, but can also drop into the 30s at times. The weather is usually cloudy and often damp with intermittent rain.
A few times each winter, it gets cold enough for rain to briefly turn to snow. But every few years or so, cold air flows over the mountains, dropping temperatures below freezing for days at a time, and allowing the perpetual Seattle rain to accumulate as heavy snow.
