WEST FARGO —The West Fargo Police Department will be hosting an informational open house next week to provide residents an opportunity to learn more about the new body cameras currently being tested by officers.

The event runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 22, inside the Lieutenant Adam Gustafson Training Room at West Fargo City Hall, 800 4th Ave. E.

“This informational open house is an opportunity for our residents to learn more about the new body worn camera program while interacting with our officers,” said Police Chief Denis Otterness in a news release.

West Fargo police have begun testing WatchGuard body worn cameras on an initial group of officers. The testing phase is the first step towards department-wide implementation and allows for an effective program roll out to impacted personnel, the release said.

The department expects to have roughly 80 body cameras in use by the end of 2023.
