MOORHEAD — A suspect in the robbery of a Moorhead bank on May 1 is facing a felony charge in Clay County District Court.
Robert Vaughn Evans, 51, address unknown, is charged with second-degree aggravated robbery, according to papers filed Friday, May 17, in Clay County District Court. As of Friday afternoon, he is not in custody at Clay County Jail.
At 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, a detective was dispatched on a report of a robbery at the Gate City Bank in the Moorhead Hornbachers store at 950 40th Ave. S.
The detective spoke with a bank employee who said she greeted a man, identified as Evans, who handed her a note that said “I have a gun,” court papers show.
The robber then demanded cash and left after the employee handed over an undisclosed amount of money, court papers show.

High-quality surveillance video and assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service helped identify Evans as a suspect.
The bank employee told police she did not see a gun during the robbery and surveillance video did not show the robber to have a gun, court papers stated.
Evans was last seen driving a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe with Iowa license plates DNL 661.
Authorities have said they don’t believe Evans remained in the Fargo-Moorhead area following the robbery.
