PELICAN RAPIDS, Minn. - An 18-year-old man is dead after the car he was driving crashed head-on into a semitrailer this morning in Otter Tail County, Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow said.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of family, he said.

The accident was reported just after 6:30 a.m. on Highway 108 about four miles east of Pelican Rapids, where the highway curves south at Lake Lida, Grabow said.

The car crossed the centerline and was hit by an oncoming grain-hauler semi, which was empty, Grabow said.

The car's driver wasn't wearing his seat belt, he said. The semi's driver was not injured.

Both vehicles were blocking the highway, closing it to traffic. The road reopened at 9 a.m., said Grabow, who had initially reported the victim's age as 19.
