FARGO - A 22-year-old Bismarck man died Friday morning and another remains hospitalized after the SUV they were traveling in left Interstate 29 south of Fargo.
Christopher Wenzel was killed in the crash, and 22-year-old Shane Koenig of Bismarck is in stable condition at Fargo's Essentia Health, said Sgt. Troy Hischer of the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Neither man was wearing a seatbelt, and both were ejected when the vehicle rolled. Alcohol and speed were main contributing factors to the crash, the state patrol said in a news release.
The one-vehicle crash happened at about 6:30 a.m. Friday 15 miles south of Fargo.
The 1997 GMC Jimmy was traveling north on I-29 and entered the east ditch for unknown reasons. The driver overcorrected, and the SUV skidded out of control across the roadway and rolled several times before coming to rest on the median.
