Traffic will be shifting early this morning as the 45th Street interchange project enters a new phase of construction in Fargo, according to a release from the North Dakota Department of Transportation.

Crews will be reconstructing the Interstate 94 on-ramps on the west side of 45th Street - northwest ramp and southwest loop ramp - over a 15-day period. Only one northbound lane and one southbound lane will be open on 45th Street during the new phase.

Southbound motorists on 45th Street who want to go eastbound on I-94 will be able to take a left turn onto the southeast ramp to access the interstate. Motorists heading westbound on I-94 will be able to use the new northeast loop ramp while the northwest ramp is closed.

The eastbound I-94 passing lane will be closed during the traffic switch as crews install safety devices and remove bridge forms.

Speed limits will be reduced throughout the construction zone and along detour routes. Officials encourage 45th Street motorists who want get on the interstate to follow the suggested detour route west on 17th Avenue South and south on Ninth Street East/Veteran's Boulevard.
