50 races, 50 days, 50 states - all to raise awareness on mental health issues

A small, but strong, and growing, group is tackling mental health issues, by running or walking in a 5K.

At Dike East in Fargo, nearly 30 people laced up their tennis shoes to raise awareness for a prevalent issue across the nation.

Dr. Adel Korkor founded the race two years ago, called the 5k in 50 states 50 Days Run/Walk for Mental Health.

He's worked with so many struggling with mental health issues, including himself.

He said there's no umbrella solution for all the issues, and has found it interesting to see what different people in different states deal with.

This was race number 28 of 50.

For one mother and daughter duo, this is their 24th state they've raced in together in the last five years.

Emma and Julia Venetis are from Illinois, but have been on a journey of their own to run a race in all 50 states.

They don't just participate in any event - they seek out walks and races that are for a good cause.

"We just kind of fit it in," said Venetis. "We had a wedding in New Orleans, so we found a race before the wedding, we had a reunion in Massachusetts, we found a race in Massachusetts, we try and both tie it in."

The group traveled to Minnesota on Saturday.
