DULUTH, Minn. - Authorities say seven people have been injured on Lake Superior in northeastern Minnesota after lightning struck a private sailboat.
Duluth Assistant Fire Chief Jarry Keppers said four have critical injuries, including a 9-year-old boy.
The Duluth News Tribune reported that Duluth fire crews and St. Louis County rescue workers were called to the scene shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday as scattered thunderstorms moved through the area.
Keppers said the 26-foot sailboat was about a mile from the Sky Harbor airport at the end of Minnesota Point in Duluth. Firefighters and rescue workers used boats and all-terrain vehicles to reach the sailboat.
