DULUTH, Minn. - An 86-year-old Saginaw, Minn., man died Wednesday when the car he was driving was struck by a semi about 15 miles west of Duluth.
The Minnesota State Patrol said the man, whose name has not yet been released pending notification of family, was coming from the direction of Proctor on U.S. Highway 2 and stopped at the intersection with state Highway 194 at about 10:50 a.m., but then pulled into the intersection. His 1997 Buick LeSabre was struck on the driver’s side by a 2010 Peterbilt semi that was eastbound on Highway 2. It was driven by Justin Roberts, 25, of Greeley, Colo.
Roads were closed in both directions while the accident was investigated, the Patrol reported..
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, the Patrol said. Roberts did not appear to be injured.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, the Patrol said. Road conditions at the time of the crash were described as wet.
