GRAND FORKS – The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a nine-year-old McLeod, N.D., boy died in an ATV accident at the Grand Forks Air Force Base on Thursday morning.

The patrol said the boy was driving the ATV in the area of a construction project near the Plains View Golf Course around 10 a.m. He lost control in a rutted, grassy area and was ejected from the vehicle. It overturned and came to rest on top of the boy, the patrol said.

He was taken to Altru Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the patrol.

The crash remains under investigation.
