A mother's love takes many shapes and forms.
It's found in the warm smile for the baby in her arms. The soft caress that wipes away a toddler's tears. The comfy shoulder where tired heads rest.
This love is what defines her role in society.
A mother is love.
In honor of all moms, today we're sharing images of that love.

We invited readers to nominate mothers for this photo project on our parenting Web site, InForum Moms, and then photographed 12 families.
Their portraits show generations of matriarchs, as well as the unique relationships between children and their mothers. They reflect the diversity of motherhood - new moms, grandmothers, mothers who adopted their children, an expecting mom.
Motherhood isn't static. But one thing is constant among all moms.
