The 16-year-old Halstad, Minn., boy who was accidentally shot in the stomache by a friend last week was released from the hospital Friday.
Payton Rufsvold was shot Sept. 3 at a rural Grandin, N.D., residence.
A 16-year-old Grandin boy said he thought the shotgun was not loaded. He pointed it at Rufsvold and fired one round.
Rufsvold was holding a bottle of soda in front of himself, which Trail County Sheriff Mike Crocker said likely saved Rufsvold's life as it cushioned the impact of the shell.
The boy who shot Rufsvold was expected to face charges of reckless endangerment, a Class C felony, and minor in consumption, a Class B misdemeanor.
