VALLEY CITY, N.D. – A Valley City man is behind bars Tuesday after police allege they tracked him to the scene of a burglary by his footprints in the snow.

Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson said police were called at about 4:20 a.m. to the report a burglary at 510 7th Ave. S.E.

A laptop computer, camera case and a Remington .222 caliber bolt action rifle with a scope were missing, Thompson said.

While checking out the crime scene, police noticed a set of fresh footprints in the snow, leading to 599 6th St. S.E., Thompson said.

After getting a search warrant for that address, officers raided the home and discovered all of the stolen property, and after questioning the occupants, arrested William Skywalker Weatherford, 19, of Valley City.
