A fire in a north Fargo house damaged at least one of the three apartments inside Sunday afternoon.

Three people were home when smoke was reported in a second-story apartment of the house at 702 26th St. N.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the vents. The owner, who lives on the main floor, and two residents of the basement apartment were still in their units and left without injury.

The fire was located in an attic space on the south side of the second-story apartment. The resident of that unit was not home.

After the fire was extinguished, firemen threw insulation out a back window.

Assistant Chief Larry Schuh said the top-floor apartment received smoke damage and firefighters had to chop into the wall to remove insulation. The roof was also damaged in the fire.

Schuh said only the second-floor resident would be displaced.

The fire is still under investigation. Schuh said the second-story occupant said he left on an electrical heater.

The Salvation Army was on the scene to offer assistance.
