FARGO – The rink manager of the Teamsters hockey arena said arena officials are taking special precautions to make sure it’s safe for hockey practice after several youth players were taken to the emergency room with carbon monoxide poisoning Sunday night.
Jeff Lockhart, the operations manager for the Fargo Youth Hockey Association, which owns the arena, said all the equipment at the Teamsters Arena was checked out and cleared by Xcel Energy Monday.
Only slight adjustments needed to be made to the ice rink’s Zamboni machine, Lockhardt said.
He said it’s possible that the lack of air movement that created heavy fog in the region could have contributed to problems in venting the arena.
Lockhart said a large garage door will be opened once every hour in order to make sure there’s no repeat of last night’s incidents.

In addition, he’s seeking to bring the arena in line with the state of Minnesota’s carbon monoxide regulations for indoor ice arenas.
North Dakota does not have carbon monoxide regulations.
At least two youths were seen at Sanford’s emergency room Sunday with carbon monoxide poisoning-related symptoms following games at the arena.
