Barnesville High School has cinched the Clay County High School Seat Belt Challenge.
Barnesville SADD students outdid student groups from four other Clay County high schools to win the top prize in a contest aimed at encouraging young drivers to buckle up.
Their reward: a $1,500 pizza party that will be served up Monday morning at the school.
Using posters, daily school announcements and incentive rewards, Barnesville's SADD students boosted seat belt use among their peers by 29 percent, based on surveys taken before and after the effort.
Here is a list of the other student groups competing and their rank in the competition: Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School, student council, second place; Moorhead High School, SADD, third place; Ulen-Hitterdal High School, national honor society, fourth place, and Hawley High School, student body, fifth place.
