MOORHEAD - The Red River Basin Commission is coordinating a water retention tour in the southern end of the Red River Basin on Tuesday.

Buses will leave from the Red River Valley Fairgrounds in West Fargo at 10 a.m., and the tour will begin in the eastern portion of the basin with stops in the Buffalo-Red River watershed and then head south to Wendell, Minn., to view the North Ottawa Impoundment Project, a Bois de Sioux Watershed District flood control and natural resource enhancement project near the headwaters of the Red River.

Other stops include:

  • White Rock Dam in Traverse County, Minn.
  • Sites in Roberts County, S.D.
  • Retention opportunities in the Wild Rice and Antelope Creek watersheds in North Dakota.
  • Maple River Dam near Enderlin, N.D.

The tour is free and open to the public, but registration is required by today by calling (218) 291-0422 or emailing jacque@redriverbasincommission.org .

The tour may be postponed in the event weather and/or road conditions do not allow for safe and adequate access to tour sites.
