HAMMOND, Wis. – A 63-year-old Somerset man was transported to Baldwin Medical Center late Monday morning for evaluation after he lost control of a St. Croix County Highway Dept. fuel tanker while swatting at a bee and rolled the rig over into a ditch near Hammond.

The State Patrol responded with county deputies, United Fire and Rescue and Baldwin Ambulance personnel to the 10:58 a.m. incident on CTH T, about 600 feet south of 100th Avenue near Hammond.

The Patrol said the driver told them he was trying to get a bee out of his 2005 Freightliner straight truck when he lost control, causing the truck to rollover.

Radio transmissions from law enforcement at the scene indicated the truck was carrying about 600 gallons of diesel fuel but the Patrol said there was no leakage from the tanker.

The driver incurred a head injury and was transported to Baldwin Hospital by Baldwin Ambulance, the press release said.
