FARGO - A Belcourt man is accused of stealing a promotional vehicle for a local country music station, according to charges filed Friday in Cass County District Court.

According to the police report, Gary Mark Short, who is either 36 or 37, allegedly stole a green Ford pickup used to promote Froggy 99.9 FM, with license plates that read "BIGFROG." Police say he threw rocks at the window of the broadcasting building it was parked outside of before stealing the vehicle.

The vehicle was left running with its lights on outside of the broadcasting building just after midnight Thursday, the report says. Short allegedly took the vehicle before being stopped by police at Main Avenue and 25th Street, just a few blocks away from the station's offices where the truck was parked.

Short told officers he was being held against his will by people who wanted to kill him and stole the vehicle to escape, the report says. He is charged with theft of property for allegedly taking the truck.
