BELFIELD, N.D. -- Mayor Susan Heck could be facing her second recall in 12 years.

Auditor Doug Kessel said a Dec. 7 special election is likely, if enough petition signatures are certified. Opponents allege that Heck intimidates and harasses others.

I really don't feel I'm intimidating."

She was recalled in 1992, and then elected mayor in 1998 and 2002.

Belfield Chamber President LaVonne Goetsch said she organized the latest effort after the city took sales tax money that goes to the Chamber and put it into a special fund to improve streets. But she said Heck's alleged governing style is the heart of the matter.

"We don't want people to see this as a vendetta or a hate thing," Goetsch said. "We just want the town to move forward."
