Sometimes it's a hankering for kettle corn that draws the crowd. Maybe it's that need to get your hands molded in clay.

Readers crowned the Fargo Street Fair as their favorite annual event by 49 percent, in a recent online poll.

Dave Anderson, president/CEO of the Downtown Community Partnership, said the group is honored by the designation.

"We're tickled to death," Anderson said. "The hard work that goes on behalf of the staff here, I think that really shows. To have this kind of an expression of appreciation, that means a lot."

Anderson said the street fair has evolved a lot over its 32 years of existence.

"The event supports a lot of area organizations like nonprofits, churches, Boy Scout groups," he said. "It's the volunteers that sweep the streets and empty the trash that make this event work."

He said food plays a big part in bringing people in, too.

"It's a kind of fun, eclectic selection

of foods," Anderson said. "Not just funnel cakes and corn dogs, although we have that, too."

Anderson recommends checking out the sweet corn.

"The street fair has just about the first sweet corn of the season," he said. "I always get some of that."
