Bismarck bank robber sentenced to federal prison

BISMARCK - Sean Michael Nichols, 38, of Bismarck,  was sentenced Monday to 12 years and seven months in federal prison for robbing a Bismarck bank last May.

Nichols entered Dakota Community Bank, 1727 State St., and demanded money, although no

weapon was used. Police were able to find Nichols after a witness saw him passing through a yard in the area and getting into a vehicle. The witness then called police with the type of vehicle. Nichols was located and arrested later that day and was found to be in possession of a portion of the stolen money.

U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland also sentenced Nichols to three years of supervised probation after his federal prison term. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Hagler prosecuted the case.
