Board meets in closed session for NCAA lawsuit update

BISMARCK - North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem and University of North Dakota officials spent 90 minutes this morning in a closed-door session updating officials on the NCAA lawsuit.

BISMARCK - North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem and University of North Dakota officials spent 90 minutes this morning in a closed-door session updating officials on the NCAA lawsuit.

Stenehjem said he could not comment on what was discussed during the executive session with the state Board of Higher Education.

He said conversations about settling the state's lawsuit with the NCAA over the Fighting Sioux nickname are ongoing.

Board President John Q. Paulsen said part of the session was to bring new board members up to speed. Today was the first meeting for a new university system chancellor, two new board members, a student board member and the board's faculty adviser.

Paulsen said he could not comment further.

The board is meeting in Bismarck today for its annual retreat.
