GRAND FORKS - State Sen. Bob Stenehjem, R-Bismarck, will not run for the North Dakota Public Service Commission, he told reporters Saturday at the Republican state convention.
The change in plans comes as a result of Public Service Commissioner Kevin Cramer's loss of the Republican nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Cramer's six-year Public Service Commission term ends this year. He said Saturday that he would likely seek re-election, even though he didn't express interest in running again during his House campaign.
Delegates will formally nominate a Public Service Commission candidate today, the final day of the state convention.
Stenehjem said he's "not inclined" to challenge Cramer in the PSC contest. He said "you'll have to ask him" when asked if Cramer should run considering his earlier claims to not be seeking re-election to the office.

"If Kevin wasn't running, I would have run for PSC," he said.
