The Cass County Regional Bomb Squad destroyed a hazardous device believed to be a grenade Wednesday night. It was found by a young boy near the Red River, said Fargo police.
Sgt. Carlos Nestler said a boy was looking for old bottles near the Red River when he found the device. He took it to his north Fargo home in the 700 block of First Street and showed it to his parents. They then reported it to police.
Police think the device may have been live, Nestler said. Authorities will search the area this morning.
Nestler said people who find a suspicious device should alert police immediately and not handle the item. "It could have been really dangerous if the wrong thing happened."
