Philip Thelen had trouble breathing after he was struck during a hunting trip Sunday morning, a deputy said.

Mark Thelen said Wednesday that his son was transferred to a Minneapolis hospital and is off a respirator. The elder Thelen said Philip is walking and talking and may be released from the hospital by the weekend.

Cass County Sheriff's Deputy Ellen Nilson said earlier that Mark Thelen thought his son was in front of him when he turned around and fired at pheasants his dog had stirred from a marshy area near the Maple River, about 60 miles from Fargo.
