FRAZEE, Minn. - The brother of a Frazee teen who passed away after flipping his car into an icy pond last fall is recovering from an ATV accident. According to the Becker County Sheriff's department, 20-year-old Jake Schermerhorn sustained a possible brain injury Friday at around 7:20 p.m. when he lost control of his 2010 Yamaha 4-wheeler on Eagle Lake Road and overturned it, smashing it into a tree.

Schermerhorn was not wearing a helmet.

He was first taken to St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes, then transported to a Fargo hospital, where he remained until Sunday when he was released.

Authorities are conducting testing to see if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Over the Turkey Days weekend, the Frazee community honored Schermerhorn's brother, Myrel, in a "Beast Mode" challenge to raise money for college scholarships in Myrel's memory.
