Bruce Brovold, a pedestrian safety advocate for downtown Fargo, has withdrawn from the Fargo City Commission race, citing health concerns.

Brovold, disabled because of past work-related injuries, said his health is deteriorating and his new medication is slowing him down to a point where he wouldn't be able to do the City Commission position justice.

Brovold, 55, filed for the race last month, paying the $100 candidate fee.

City Auditor Steve Sprague said he will have to do some research to find out whether that money is refundable.
