FARGO - Preliminary budgets show Cass County will increase its share of a homeowner's property tax, but both the Fargo Park District and West Fargo are holding steady.
Cass County
Taxpayers will see a jump on their Cass County property tax bill next year. The preliminary budget looks to raise the levy next year by 1.75 mills. That's an increase of $15.75 on a $200,000 house, County Auditor Mike Montplaisir said.
Most of that increase will go toward county emergency services; the rest will go toward the new courthouse addition, he said.
Budget highlights include:

- 2012 mill levy: 65.76 mills.
- 2011 levy: 64 mills.
- New positions: Four full-time sheriff's office employees and one full-time information technology employee.
- Public hearing: 6 p.m. on Sept. 19 at the Cass County Courthouse.
Fargo Park District
The Fargo Park District is holding its property tax rate steady next year. A $200,000 property will actually see a 36-cent decrease in the 2012
park levy.
One of the biggest changes the district will undergo in 2012 is when the Davies High School swimming pool and sports complex come onto the Park District payrolls.
Budget highlights include:
- 2012 mill levy: 31.39 mills.
- 2011 levy: 31.45 mills.
- New positions: none.
Public hearing: 6 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the Fargo Park District Depot. West Fargo
Assuming individual property values remain the same, West Fargo residents shouldn't see an increase in the city portion of their property tax bills next year based on a preliminary budget approved last week.
Commissioners approved a maximum budget of nearly $32.2 million for the next fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1.
Due to the city's growth and a comfortable reserve fund, the mill levy shows a slight decrease of 0.22 mill. That level could translate into negligible savings for some taxpayers, but others might see higher rates if the value of their properties improved.
