If you've been waiting to try out the new swimming area at Buffalo River State Park, you'll have to wait a little longer.
The improved swimming area had been expected to open by mid-June but park manager Bernie Dohlmann said Thursday the park is now shooting for an early July opening.
Dohlmann said construction on the $1.2 million project has been delayed by wet weather and other problems.
Park attendance dropped from 80,000 visitors in 2001 to 20,000 in 2002, when the swimming area was closed for improvement work.
When the project is completed Buffalo River water flowing into the lagoon-like pond will be treated with chlorine to improve its clarity.
