FARGO – Shanley High School students are safe and happy after mechanical troubles stalled their bus for six hours Sunday near Chicago.

The bus carrying 42 Shanley High School students and chaperones from the March for Life in Washington, D.C., was repaired while the group waited at a truck stop.

Another bus of Shanley students waited for their travel partners, too, bringing the count at the truck stop to 92.

“We turned that into a great blessing,” said chaperone and Shanley parent Jeanine Bitzan. “It’s part of the journey, taking the good with the difficult.”

The group was expected to arrive in Fargo by 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

For the first time, Shanley High School sent nearly its entire student body to the anti-abortion rally held each year in the nation’s capital. The school was also chosen to carry the lead banner for the march this year.

Students and parents raised about $130,000 for the trip.

Eight buses transported students and chaperones from Fargo to Washington, D.C.
