FERGUS FALLS, Minn. - A 59-year-old California man drowned Friday night in Jewett Lake, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a news release, at 10 p.m. Friday, the sheriff’s office responded to a person who had fallen out of a boat on the south side of the lake. Family members heard him yelling for help and attempted to get to him. He went under before they reached him.
Emergency crews searched for the victim until early Saturday morning, but were unable to locate him. The search resumed at sunrise, and the man, deceased, was located.
He was the sole occupant of the boat and was not wearing a life preserver.
In addition to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabeth Fire/Rescue, Fergus Falls Fire Department and Otter Tail County Water Patrol assisted in the search.
