Car fire on tracks leads to DWI charge

A Fergus Falls, Minn., man faces a DWI charge after he drove a vehicle onto railroad tracks in Moorhead early Wednesday and the vehicle burst into flames, Moorhead police said.

The incident was reported about 2:05 a.m.

Police said Matthew Richter, 24, drove a car onto BNSF Railway tracks in the 2100 block of 20th Street South, where the car became stuck and caught fire.

Police said no roadway led to the spot and Richter could not explain how his car reached the railroad tracks.

Richter will face a third-degree DWI charge for having a suspected blood-alcohol level of 0.22 percent, police said.

Richter was one of five people cited for DWI on Wednesday, Moorhead police said.
