DULUTH, Minn. - One of the two teenagers rescued from a camping trailer filled with carbon monoxide in Rice Lake Township on Wednesday night was upgraded to satisfactory condition on Friday.
Noah Mechley, 14, was upgraded from critical to satisfactory condition at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. His 15-year-old sister, Karley Mechley, remained in critical condition at the same hospital, where the teens have been treated in a hyperbaric facility.
Their father, Michael Mechley, 39, and 11-year-old sister Charlene Mechley were found dead inside the trailer near Homecroft Elementary School just outside of Duluth’s city limits on Wednesday evening. The preliminary cause of death is carbon monoxide poisoning.
Authorities said they believe the colorless, odorless gas came from a small, gas-powered generator located under the overhang of the trailer, where the family had been living.
