The Cass County Office of the NDSU Extension Service has flood recovery information available to local residents. The information is free of charge and includes information of cleaning and repairing flooded basements; home cleanup and sanitation; mold and mildew cleanup.

In addition, moisture meters are available to residents on a loan basis to test the moisture content of the wooden framework of their home. Moisture content of wood is very important in the process of recovering and refinishing walls after they have been wet. If walls are covered before the moisture content drops to no more than 15 percent, problems with mold and mildew can be expected. Moisture content of 12 percent or lower is ideal. The moisture meters cannot be used to check the moisture content of cement.

When checking out the moisture meters, you will be asked for a $100 deposit, and the moisture meter must be returned within 24 hours. Upon return of the meter, the entire $100 deposit will be returned. It is suggested that people call (701) 241-5700 to make sure a meter is available before making a trip to the Cass County Extension Office.

People can access flood-related information and get questions answered by calling the Cass County Extension Office at 701-241-5700 or www.ag.ndsu.edu/flood .
