AMENIA, N.D. - A spooked pair of Shetland ponies jumped on a squad car as a deputy was parked on a road near here, damaging the car but causing no major injuries, authorities said.

Cass County Sheriff's Deputy Joe Crawford was checking for an address to deliver court documents when a cart pulled by the ponies approached his car, Lt. Mike Argall said.

"They proceeded to jump onto my squad car," Crawford reported.

Crawford's report said the horses were not hurt. He said they crossed the road and "continued north in the ditch area until they found some grass to eat."
