The director of Cass County Social Services is retiring after 18 years on the job.
Kathy Hogan has submitted a letter of resignation to the county's Social Service Board. She plans to remain in her position until July 1 to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership.
Hogan, who turns 60 in two weeks, said she's been thinking about retiring for awhile. In June, she will reach her 40th year of service to the human service system.
As Social Services director, Hogan oversees a staff of 130, which serves 12,000 people each month.
"This is a very high-stress job, lots of responsibilities," she said Monday. "I haven't figured out how to not work 60 hours a week, and I want more balance in my life, so I'm going to slow down a little."
