Cass deputy to carry Special Olympics torch

FARGO-Deputy Sam Rankin of the Cass County Sheriff's Office will participate in the final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise awareness and support of Special Olympics and the 2015 World Summer Games in Los Angeles.

FARGO-Deputy Sam Rankin of the Cass County Sheriff's Office will participate in the final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise awareness and support of Special Olympics and the 2015 World Summer Games in Los Angeles. Rankin has been a volunteer for the North Dakota Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics North Dakota for five years.

The final leg team will carry the torch for 17 days in July to more than 125 cities throughout California and will complete the journey July 25 when the torch is carried into the opening ceremony of the games.

Special Olympics North Dakota has two athletes competing in the world summer games: Adam Maresh, Valley City, will compete in powerlifting; and Josh Jerome, Grand Forks, will compete in track and field. Dr. Julie Blehm, Fargo, will serve as a team doctor, and Cindy Schopper, Valley City, will serve as the team manager.
