Cass early voting set to begin Monday

Early voting for the Nov.

Early voting for the Nov. 2 election begins next week in Cass County, with a polling site in Casselton for the first time.

Fargo and West Fargo each had one early voting site for the June 8 election, forcing residents in outlying areas to drive to one of the cities if they wanted to cast their ballots early.

"We thought we'd expand it this time around and make it more accessible to everybody," County Auditor Mike Montplaisir said.

The Governors' Inn will host the early voting site in Casselton, while the Doublewood Inn will again host Fargo's site and Veterans Memorial Arena will host the West Fargo site.

Early voting accounted for 2,133 of the 15,010 votes cast in Cass County for the June 8 election, and for 20,744 of the 72,069 votes in the 2008 presidential election, Montplaisir said.

Many local residents who travel south for the winter tend to leave around the start of November and want to take care of voting before they leave instead of voting absentee, he said.

Absentee votes must be postmarked by Nov. 1. About 3,000 of the roughly 5,500 absentee ballots sent out have been returned, Montplaisir said.

Absentee ballot applications are available online at www.casscountynd.gov or by calling the auditor's office at (701) 241-5601.
