Cass County officials want to talk to a consultant about nearly $30,000 worth of recent vandalism in the new jail.

County Commissioner Scott Wagner, who has the county board's jail portfolio, will ask Monday that jail expert Jim Rowenhorst return earlier than originally scheduled to talk about the problem.

Earlier this week, two inmates broke stainless-steel shelves off walls in their cells, Jail Administrator Walt Willis said. Several windows in the jail have been broken by inmates.

"There are some major flaws in our disciplinary sections (of the jail)," Willis said.

Rowenhorst was to return six months after the jail's opening to review its operations. The jail has been open about a month and a half.
