Cass County residents are invited to exchange a noxious weed for a harmless look-alike starting Monday.
Local 4-H clubs, the county and cities of Fargo and West Fargo teamed up last month to grow about 1,000 blazing stars, known formally as liatrus.
Now they're ready to trade the blazing stars for purple loosestrife, a once-common garden plant that's been labeled a noxious weed.
Residents will receive one blazing star for each purple loosestrife they bring to the plant exchange. They can also get a blazing star for loosestrife they've previously removed.
The plant exchange will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the following days and locations:

- Monday: Kindred, N.D., pool; Casselton, N.D., recycling site; Horace, N.D., Kum & Go; Harwood, N.D., Cenex.
- Tuesday and Wednesday: Fargo recycling sites at the corner of Elm Street and 29th Avenue North and the corner of 25th Street and 17th Avenue South; West Fargo Veterans Memorial Arena.
