FARGO - A Fargo Catholic school complex and parish office were put into lockdown Wednesday morning after a man came into the Nativity parish office looking for help, school officials said.

The man came into the chapel and asked to speak with a priest, expressing concerns about his personal safety and seeking refuge in the church, said Fargo police Lt. Mike Mitchell.

School officials contacted police and issued a lockdown order of the entire parish complex about 9:40 a.m. as a precaution, said Nativity Elementary School Principal Cindy Hutchins.

Police said the man was not armed, never threatened the children and did not enter the school.

It's unclear what the nature of his safety concerns were, Mitchell said. The man was not taken into custody.

The lockdown ended at about 10:15 a.m. without incident, Hutchins said.
