MAHNOMEN, Minn. - Charges were filed Monday against a 52-year-old man accused of two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of an elderly Mahnomen County couple last week, officials said.
Timothy James Thorson was charged in Mahnomen County District Court with two second-degree murders and a count each of motor vehicle theft and burglary, said Mahnomen County Attorney Julie Bruggeman.
Bail was set at $5 million cash without conditions or $2 million cash or bond with conditions, she said. Thorson is scheduled to be back in court on Thursday.
Thorson is suspected of killing 72-year-old Francis Lundon and 71-year-old Ethyl Lundon, who lived a mile away from the group home for the chemically dependant where Thorson had been staying for the past three years.
The Lundons were found in their homes early Friday, the victim of apparent gunshot wounds, Mahnomen County Sheriff Doug Krier said Friday.
