Charles G. M. Edgerly, 84, of Fargo, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND.

Charles George Morgan Edgerly was born on November 29, 1918, in Gilmanton, New Hampshire, to Frank A. and Mary R. (Morgan) Edgerly. He attended a one room school in Gilmanton and graduated from Pittsfield, New Hampshire High School in 1938.

Charles married Marian Frances Howard on November 4, 1944, in Glen, New Hampshire. He then went on to attend and graduate from the University of New Hampshire in 1948. Charles graduated from Rutgers University, New Jersey with a Masters Degree in 1950.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the European-African Theater and in the Pacific area in the Amphibious Forces in the Army Signal Corps. He served for 16 months during the Korean War in a training status.

Charles served on the faculty of the University of Maine, Orono, Maine and was on the faculty of the North Dakota State University until his retirement in 1984. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve with the rank of Major.

Charles is survived by five sons, Edward A. (Bonnie) Edgerly, Portland, OR; Thomas C. (Geneva) Edgerly, West Fargo, ND; Carl D. (Carol) Edgerly, Bismarck, ND; Richard W. (Carol) Edgerly, West Fargo, ND; John H. (Monica) Edgerly, West Fargo, ND; and two daughters, Alice (Hugh) Robinson, Bismarck, ND; Mary (Kevin) O'Neil, Comstock, MN; one sister, Margaret C. Rhodes, Concord, NH; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; his parents, Frank A. and Mary R. Edgerly; a brother, Albert D. Edgerly and a sister, Dorothy Holt.

Visitation: Friday, June 27, 2003, from 5-7 P.M., at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.

Funeral services: Saturday, June 28, 2003, at 2:00 P.M., at First United Methodist Church, Fargo, ND.

Burial: Monday, June 30, 2003, at noon at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
