A Fargo man who repeatedly molested two 6-year-old girls has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Jay Edward Duval, 32, pleaded guilty in April to two Class A felony counts of gross sexual imposition and was sentenced Thursday. Upon his release from prison, Duval must register as a sex offender for life.

Duval had sexual contact with the victims between July 1 and Dec. 31, police reports say. One of the girls said Duval touched her almost every day, usually at night.

In a written confession, Duval told police he was abused as a child and could not control his behavior.

"I know what I did was wrong," he wrote.

Cass County prosecutors recommended a sentence of 10 years in prison and another 10 years suspended, with five years of supervised probation.

East Central District Judge Frank Racek chose to add two years to Duval's prison term but not impose the probation after his release.
