Fargo residents can prepare their yards for spring planting and landscaping with wood chips and compost from the city.

Residents can pick up one free yard of wood chips and/or compost from 3:30 to 5 p.m. today, Thursday and the following Wednesdays and Thursdays until June 5 at the city's compost site on the southeast corner of Seventh Avenue North and 45th Street.

The city will also offer a giveaway from 7 a.m. until noon Saturday.

City crews will be available to help residents load materials into trucks and trailers. Residents who want smaller amounts should bring containers to hold the materials.

Residents must also show proof of Fargo residency when claiming their compost and wood chips. Additional yards will be available for purchase.
